A dual-cab is a working asset, and the businesses built around one rarely fit a standard car-loan box. Whether you are a Sydney plumber, a Melbourne electrician kitting out a new ute, a Brisbane landscaper expanding the fleet, a Perth mining-services operator, an Adelaide HVAC technician, a Hobart sole trader buying on a private sale, a Darwin remote-area contractor or a Canberra field technician, Equifund matches you to lenders who assess trade income, ABN history and asset value the way light commercial finance should be assessed. Compare rates and structures in our guide to Best Business Vehicle Finance in Australia.
Your application goes to specialist trade and light commercial lenders, not the standard consumer auto desk.
Every major dual-cab ute brand financed through specialist lenders for prime ABN profiles.

| Equifund, commercial finance specialist | Major bank | Dealer finance | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who they lend to | Established ABN holders, sole traders to small fleets, assessed on the business and the ute. | Prefers strong financials or PAYG strength, often backed by property. | Whoever is buying from that yard, on a take-it-or-leave-it rate. |
| Income assessed | Trade income, BAS and contract income. Low-doc for established ABNs, no full tax returns for prime profiles. | Full financials and tax returns usually required. | Limited, tied to the sale, not your wider business. |
| Lender choice | 80+ Australian lenders matched to your deal. | One bank, one credit template. | One or two aligned financiers only. |
| Rate & structure | Market-tested rate with balloon and 1 to 5 year terms, extra repayments and end-of-term options. | Standard products with limited flexibility. | Rate loaded with dealer margin, and high balloons that flatter the monthly but cost more. |
| New, used & private | New, used, ex-fleet, private-sale and auction all financed. | Restrictive on used, private and auction buys. | Usually the dealer's own stock only. |
| Deposit & security | $0 deposit for prime applications, secured on the ute, not your home. | May require property security or a deposit. | Often requires deposit or trade-in to manage dealer margin. |
| Speed | Pre-approval in 2 to 4 hours, settlement same or next business day. | 3 to 7 business days for full approval. | Immediate quote but limited rate shopping. |

Straight answers to the questions Australian tradies and business owners ask most.
Ute finance is a commercial finance product for ABN-holding businesses that need a dual-cab utility vehicle. It is structured as a chattel mortgage, finance lease, operating lease or CHP, with the ute securing the loan and the interest and depreciation generally deductible for business use. Equifund sources ute finance through 80+ specialist lenders.
ABN holders with an active trading history of 12 months or more qualify for standard ute finance. Established businesses trading 2+ years qualify for low-doc ute finance, which uses BAS and bank statements rather than full tax returns. Sole traders, partnerships, companies and trusts all qualify, the ABN is your primary assessment basis, not property ownership.
Yes, for prime ABN profiles. $0 deposit ute finance is available when the business has a clean credit file, 2+ years trading history, and the ute is a standard commercial variant (not heavily modified). A small deposit may be required for lower-doc or short-ABN-history applicants.
A chattel mortgage treats the ute as a business asset, the lender takes a charge over it while you own it from day one. This lets you claim the GST upfront on your next BAS and depreciate the vehicle for tax. A personal car loan does not offer these tax advantages and is not suited to a commercial ute purchase. For business use, chattel mortgage or finance lease are the correct products.
Yes. Under a chattel mortgage, the full GST on the purchase price is claimable on your next BAS, not spread across the loan term. This provides an upfront cash-flow benefit for GST-registered businesses. Under a finance lease, the GST is recovered through the lease rentals instead. Speak to your accountant about the best structure for your situation.
Standard ute finance applications from established ABN holders are typically pre-approved within 2 to 4 business hours. Same-day formal approval is common for prime profiles with clean credit and 2+ years ABN history. A short online application and basic business documents are all that is needed to get started.
Yes. Equifund finances new, ex-demo, fleet-returned and used dual-cab utes including private-sale and auction purchases. Lender criteria on used utes typically relate to age and odometer, most specialist lenders will finance utes up to 10 years old or 200,000 km at time of purchase. Major bank restrictions on used and private buys are common; specialist lenders are more flexible.
Yes. Canopies, trays, toolboxes, service bodies and fit-outs can typically be rolled into the same finance facility as the ute, provided they are permanently fixed to the vehicle. This keeps the transaction simple and avoids a separate personal loan for accessories. Request the accessory pricing from your dealer and include it in your application.
Equifund finances all major ute brands in Australia including Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, Mazda BT-50, Nissan Navara, LDV T60, GWM Cannon, Volkswagen Amarok and RAM 1500. Both new and used variants across all grades are financeable through the 80+ lender panel.
Yes. Small fleet finance of 2 to 10 vehicles is available as separate individual loans or under a master facility, depending on the lender and the business profile. Fleet structures often allow staggered settlements so vehicles can be delivered progressively. Larger fleets of 10+ vehicles are handled as a commercial fleet account.
Approved amounts range from $20,000 for a late-model used ute to $120,000+ for a new dual-cab with a service body and accessories. Fleet finance of 3 or more vehicles can be structured under a master facility. Loan amount is assessed on the business income and the asset value, not a fixed cap.
For a standard application: ABN, driver’s licence, last 2 BAS statements and last 3 months business bank statements. For low-doc: ABN, driver’s licence, 6 months BAS and an accountant’s letter or 12 months bank statements. Full financial statements and tax returns are not required for most prime ABN profiles.
